Jim Belushi has it all: success in a decades-long career, legions of friends in high and low places, and a sweat lodge on his\u00a0Oregon ranch.<\/p>\n

The host of the A&E series \u201cK9 PD with Jim Belushi\u201d exclusively told Fox News Digital that his \u201csanctuary\u201d up north is not only an idyllic retreat for him, but also serves as an incredibly \u201cspiritual\u201d haven.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love Oregon, it\u2019s a beautiful property,\u201d Belushi explained of his ranch, which is also featured on a\u00a0reality series about his cannabis farm<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ve got a sweat lodge. I built a sweat lodge there. They do all kinds of little ceremonial Native American practices.\u201d<\/p>\n

Belushi, 71, planted roots in the southern part of the state nearly two decades ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s 50 cows on my property right now that just had 50 calves, and it\u2019s the cutest thing I\u2019ve ever seen. These little calves running around chasing each other,\u201d Belushi said. \u201cActually, last night, I got video of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey broke down the fence and came over to my place. They\u2019re going, \u2018Where\u2019s Jim?\u2019 So I had 60, 70 cows in my front yard. They wrangled them up and put them back in the fenced area.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIt\u2019s beautiful. Very nice people up there. It\u2019s a beautiful, beautiful place.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Belushi faces unique challenges on his farm, working with animals<\/a> isn\u2019t something he\u2019s afraid of. The comedy giant starred as detective Michael Dooley who was paired with\u00a0police dog Jerry Lee\u00a0in the 1989 classic, \u201cK-9.\u201d<\/p>\n

Two years later, he played a homeless con artist who caught a break with a rich lawyer, thanks in part to the antics of his orphaned daughter in the John Hughes classic,\u00a0\u201cCurly Sue.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s an old saying that goes don\u2019t work with dogs and don\u2019t work with children,\u201d Belushi chuckled. \u201cAnd I did \u2018K9\u2019 and \u2018Curly Sue.\u2019 What\u2019s different about\u00a0working with dogs\u00a0is what you hope every other actor has \u2013 the ability to be extremely present.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cWhen you\u2019re extremely present, spontaneity happens, and that\u2019s when you capture the magic.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a moment in \u2018K9\u2019 where I was on the couch, and I was leaning in for my first kiss of the girl and the dog was there, and he took his paw and pushed my head down. That wasn\u2019t planned, he wasn\u2019t trained to do that.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cameras were rolling and all I kept thinking as my head went down was, \u2018I hope there\u2019s no hair in the film, I hope nobody blew this take,\u2019 because it just was a magic moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Belushi noted that children have a similar presence while working in front of the camera.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t know the difference between the rolling and cut and action,\u201d he said. \u201cSo you gotta be \u2013 I\u2019m trained as an improvisational actor, so it helps. You just gotta be in the moment with dogs and react sincerely in that moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cBy the way, that\u2019s why they don\u2019t want you to work with children or dogs because the moment that is the most present is the moment that\u2019s the most vulnerable, and vulnerability wins the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n

Belushi\u2019s latest endeavor, hosting\u00a0\u201cK9 PD with Jim Belushi\u201d\u00a0\u2013 which follows officers and their K-9 counterparts in the field with bodycam, dash and drone footage \u2013 only amplified his love for animals and the unsung heroes in law enforcement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I did the \u2018K-9\u2019 movies, I did ride-alongs, quite a few, in LA,\u00a0San Diego,\u201d Belushi said. \u201cI went to the academy and worked with the handlers and the dogs and watched training, participated in the training.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe thing that excited me the most about the ability to do this movie was the relationship that this man or woman had with that animal. It was way beyond having a little small dog and so cute and laying on my lap. They protected each other and they both felt it and knew it.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cThe bond is hard to articulate, but it is really deep. And they take these guys home. And that\u00a0dog becomes part of their family, and that dog protects that family, and that protects that officer. Not on the street, they\u2019re protecting everybody, including the bad guy. To me, that\u2019s what was the most interesting thing is the relationship between the handler and their animal. It runs really deep.\u201d<\/p>\n

As an avid fan of action and adventure, Belushi was excited to host the\u00a0A&E reality series.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s visceral. You\u2019ve got drama, you\u2019ve got a little humor in it, but you really have that warmth between the handler,\u201d Belushi said. \u201cThey are in moments of life and death always, and how they care for each other, protect each other \u2014 It\u2019s beautiful to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cThis piece of that relationship between the canine and the canine\u2019s officer. I mean, that is what attracted me \u2026 And the action. I\u2019m an action guy.
