The Twins have more home games in April than in any other month this season.<\/p>\n
MINNEAPOLIS \u2014 Over the years, we have seen every kind of Minnesota Twins home opener you can think of \u2014 from sunny and warm, to rainy and freezing.<\/p>\n
“The very first home opener we had here was mid 60s back in 2010,\u201d Twins spokesman Matt Hodson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve had other years where we have had snow.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Major League Baseball, the coldest Twins game ever happened in April 2018 when the game-time temperature was a freezing 27 degrees.<\/p>\n
The forecast for Friday\u2019s home opener shows temps in the 30\u2019s and low 40\u2019s, so we won\u2019t break any records this year, in fact the temp may not even crack the top ten coldest games in history.<\/p>\n
Looking at MLB records, the Twins have played a handful of games in 30-degree weather over the years. However, it\u2019s possible we could see a few more cold days later this spring.<\/p>\n
The Twins’ schedule shows the team will play 17 home games this April, the most out of any month this season.<\/p>\n
Hodson says scheduling 17 home games in April isn\u2019t ideal, but he says having this many home games early in the season has freed up extra time in August that the Twins are using to schedule three outdoor concerts and three games with the Savannah Bananas.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we saw the schedule come out and the 17 home games, we thought, ‘Hey, it\u2019s Minnesota, it\u2019s spring time, we could have 71 degree weather, we could have 40.’ It\u2019s what the schedule has. We\u2019ll play ball, and we\u2019ll be ready for it,\u201d Hodson said.<\/p>\n
The Twins will take on the Tampa Bay Rays at 3:10 p.m. Friday for the team\u2019s home opener.<\/p>\n
