Aldi<\/a> is set to bring 40 full-time jobs to Blaydon<\/a>, through the retailer<\/a>‘s latest proposal for a new food<\/a> store. The company wants to open another location in Gateshead<\/a>, which it says would deliver a “\u00a37million investment into the local economy”.<\/p>\n The proposed site, on Chainbridge Road, is a brownfield plot of land, containing several buildings that have fallen into a state of disrepair. The main structure which currently sits on the site has also been significantly impacted by fire damage, and Aldi is looking to “transform” the area.<\/p>\n Aldi currently has nearby stores<\/a> in Metro Park and Dunston<\/a>, and the retailer says it wants to provide “more convenient access to low-cost products” for residents in Blaydon. As well as the store itself, the plans include a customer car park, landscaping around the boundary, and an access point for those who are walking or cycling.<\/p>\n With existing derelict buildings set to be demolished, and a new road to be built running through to the southeast, people will be able to more directly access the industrial unit Loverose Way. This site is ideally located, allowing us to bring our award-winning offer to the area and unlocking a wider brownfield site for future investment by others.<\/p>\n “We\u2019d like to encourage all those in the local area to let us know what they think about our plans and look forward to working with residents and stakeholders to deliver a new Aldi food store for the area.”<\/p>\n Aldi will aim to submit an application to Gateshead Council<\/a> in the coming months, following an ‘extensive community consultation process’, with the plans being displayed virtually from Monday, March 30 to Monday, April 13.
