TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – A jaguar known as “Cinco” is expanding his range across the Arizona borderlands, providing researchers with critical evidence that the big cats are establishing themselves in the region.<\/p>\n
According to the Wild Cat Research and Conservation Center at the University of Arizona, recent camera detections show Jaguar 5 moving into new areas of the borderlands. The jaguar is navigating rugged terrain and high-elevation corridors that researchers have monitored for years.<\/p>\n
“Every time he triggers a different camera, he provides a new piece of the puzzle for jaguar recovery in the U.S.,” the center said.<\/p>\n
The sightings were captured through year-round community science monitoring by the independently funded center. Researchers said the detections prove that jaguars are not just passing through the area but are settling in.<\/p>\n
