LOS ANGELES \u2014 Pop star Taylor Swift is facing a federal lawsuit from a Las Vegas performer<\/a> who accuses Swift\u2019s latest album title of infringement on her long-established brand built around the phrase \u201cConfessions of a Showgirl.\u201d<\/p>\n

The complaint was filed by performer and writer Maren Wade in California federal court, accusing Swift and her record label of trademark infringement tied with the 2025 album \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Wade said she has used \u201cConfessions of a Showgirl\u201d since 2014 across a Las Vegas Weekly column, stage performances and other media, and that the branding has grown into a recognizable identity within the entertainment space.<\/p>\n

According to the lawsuit, Swift\u2019s album title and marketing approach are similar enough to Wade\u2019s trademarked phrase that they could confuse consumers and weaken Wade\u2019s brand.<\/p>\n

The filing also raises the concept of \u201creverse confusion,\u201d arguing that Swift\u2019s global reach could overshadow Wade\u2019s work, making it appear as though the original showgirl brand is affiliated with or derived from Swift\u2019s project.<\/p>\n

Federal trademark officials had already flagged the similarity before<\/a> the lawsuit, with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office declining Swift\u2019s attempt to register \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d due to potential overlap with Wade\u2019s existing trademark.<\/p>\n

Wade is seeking monetary damages and a court order that would bar Swift from continuing to use the disputed title in connection with her album and related promotions.<\/p>\n

Representatives for Swift and her label, Universal Music Group, have not publicly responded to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n
