The mysterious object stands approximately 4 feet tall and 3.5 feet wide. As of Thursday afternoon, the organization had not offered any formal explanation, only confirming that the egg is real and that it is now under the team’s care.

Curious fans and staff gathered outside the arena, some taking photos and videos while a group of children rushed to touch the egg that sat behind violet ropes.

Chase Center wildlife consultant and licensed falconer Kenny Elvin was called in to crack the case.

“I’d say it could hatch Monday,” Elvin said on Thursday morning. “I’m pretty sure it’s a bird. The egg is starting to move a little bit, and if you listen closely, you can hear a slight peeping sound.”

The Valkyries, coming off a 78–72 loss to Las Vegas on Wednesday, are in the midst of a three-game homestand following a grueling five-city road trip. They’ll remain in San Francisco through Monday, setting the stage for a potential reveal before they head back on the road.

In a statement to the Chronicle, the team said it is working with Chase Center staff to bring the egg inside the arena for “safekeeping.” The team announced on Thursday afternoon that it would launch a livestream of the egg.

Elvin’s estimate lines up curiously with the team’s upcoming “Bird Watchers Night” on Monday, when the Valkyries host the Connecticut Sun. While the Valkyries haven’t provided a timeline for the egg’s hatching or its significance, the team has yet to unveil an official mascot, despite holding tryouts for the position earlier this year.

The Colorado Rockies hatched their mascot, Dinger the dinosaur, out of an egg at Mile High Stadium in 1994 after it had “been found during the construction of Coors Field,” so there is a precedent. But Elvin is convinced that the Chase Center egg does not contain a dinosaur.

“It appears it’ll be some sort of bird,” Elvin deadpanned. “No birds I know of lay an egg that large, so it’s unique. Whatever left it must be comfortable enough that the Valkyries will take care of it.”

Whatever is to come from inside the mystery egg, it appears it’s going to make an appearance at Chase Center on Monday.

On WNBA trade deadline day, the Golden State Valkyries seem to have made a surprising acquisition, though not…

[73
51870,4804,99,26334,434,1765
0":"post-562728","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-wnba","8":"tag-chase-center","9":"tag-golden-state-valkyries","10":"tag-sports","11":"tag-valkyries","12":"tag-wnba","13":"tag-womens-sports
["GET
