Given Jaylen Brown grew up a huge fan of former Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets star Tracy McGrady, only to have him become something of a mentor to the Georgia native in recent years, it probably should not surprise us to hear McGrady <\/a>has Brown as his Most Valuable Player winner this season. But McGrady is not alone in such a sentiment as the 2025-26 NBA regular season starts to wind down, even if another prominent name might also be a bit biased.<\/p>\n

It seems rookie Celtics teammate Hugo Gonzalez also has the Cal alum as his MVP for 2026, which he explained in a recent podcast <\/a>appearance for Drafteados. “As a person, he’s been a leader since the first day,” said the Celtics rookie (translation ours from the original Spanish) and this year he’s taken another leap, right?”<\/p>\n

“I’m not going to say a leap, I’m going to say a further leap in what is his game, and the truth is he deserves it, because he works incredibly hard, he’s a super professional guy, and he’s also someone who wants to make everyone around him better.”<\/p>\n

“He helps me a lot (…),” continued the Madrid native. “In the end, he feels like he sees in me what he thinks he was (as a rookie). So he tries to help me in every way he is able to, and I’m very grateful, because he’s an amazing player.”<\/p>\n

“He’s going to be MVP,” said Gonzalez, deftly avoiding a specific season his veteran teammate will put it together to win the prize — though if not now, when?<\/p>\n
