And while there are many tunes that stand the test of time for a reason, Nicks felt that there were a few tunes that were going to live forever before they had even been released.

Then again, it’s not hard to see what Nicks was talking about when making some of those early hits. It doesn’t take a cutting-edge musical genius to realise that ‘The Edge of Seventeen’ was going to be absolutely everywhere within a matter of weeks when it came out, but it gets harder to judge when you’ve been in the game for too long. No one wants to hear the same artists on the radio forever, but ‘Soldier’s Angel’ is a tune that had a lot more legs beyond being a typical rock and roll song.

Nicks had touched on the true horrors of war here, and when talking about the track, she felt that no one could take away the power and energy the tune had, saying, “I think that ‘Soldier’s Angel’ is probably the song off of this record that will live on forever because it does sort of capture a moment in time through Iraq and Afghanistan and everything that’s going on now. These wars aren’t over, and these kids are coming back, and they’re so wounded, and they’re never going to be the same, and people should try to remember that.”

But the real magic behind all of Nicks’ tracks is about how they sound when they are played with the rest of the band. Whereas Buckingham would have usually reserved all of the fun parts for himself in the studio, Nicks wanted to create an energy whenever she made one of her songs, and the right take didn’t matter if someone played a wrong note. It was about what felt right when you heard it back.

And when you look at the subject matter, Nicks wasn’t beating around the bush all that often. She had already been through songs that had difficult subjects like moving on from 9/11 on ‘Illume’, but this was one of her topical songs about something that was happening on the ground. She had already talked about war as a concept on ‘Desert Angel’, but given how divided the country was around the time of the Iraq War, she had a lot more on her mind this time around.

No one was going over there to have some fun, and since people started being sent back home with severe trauma, Nicks’s song really emphasises the gravity of the situation. All of these young men and women are doing everything they can to serve their country, but they are also going through one of the most heinous acts that mankind can ever stoop to in service of what they believe is justice.

Depending on what side of the political fence you’re on, the song might also enrage you, but Nicks didn’t make music thinking about toeing the political line. She wanted to make music that reflected the times she was in, and her comment about the wars being far from over was something that everyone needed to keep in mind. There was a lot of work to do, and Nicks wasn’t about to listen to the other side that was telling her that she needed to stay out of politics every time she sang.

She had a lot on her mind, and even if it took a while for her to nail down her thoughts, there’s a reason why her political material touches a raw nerve whenever she plays it. This was the same person who wrote those emotionally gripping songs back on Rumours, and even if her tunes had a much different lens this time around, she didn’t lack any of the musical power that she had from back in the day.

ADD AS A PREFERRED SOURCE ON GOOGLE

(Credits: Far Out / YouTube Still) Sat 4 April 2026 2:00, UK Stevie Nicks didn’t want to spend…

[53
88,216,2619,1139
0":"post-563536","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-music","8":"tag-entertainment","9":"tag-music","10":"tag-stevie-nicks","11":"tag-war
["GET
