\n\tThe Schwartz is with the forthcoming sequel to Spaceballs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmazon MGM Studios<\/a>\u2018 feature follow-up to the 1987 original<\/a> film is set for wide theatrical release April 23, 2027, the studio announced Friday. Mel Brooks<\/a>, Rick Moranis, Daphne Zuniga, Bill Pullman<\/a> and George Wyner reprise their roles from the first one, while newcomers to the cast include Josh Gad<\/a>, Keke Palmer<\/a>, Lewis Pullman<\/a> and Anthony Carrigan.<\/p>\n

\n\tJosh Greenbaum is helming the comedy from a script by Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. Producing the film are\u00a0Brian Grazer,\u00a0Ron Howard\u00a0and Jeb Brody\u00a0for Imagine Entertainment, alongside Gad, Brooks, Greenbaum and Kevin Salter.<\/p>\n

\n\tPlot details and the official title for the follow-up to the\u00a0Star Wars-spoofing feature have not yet been shared.<\/p>\n

\n\tOriginally released by MGM in 1987 \u2014 a decade after George Lucas\u2019 sci-fi classic\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0debuted to become a culture-defining smash \u2014\u00a0Spaceballs\u00a0starred Pullman, Moranis, Zuniga, Wyner and John Candy, as well as a voice role for Joan Rivers as a C-3P0 parody. Brooks helmed the film that earned $38.1 million at the box office before becoming a cult favorite.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring summer of 2024, Gad teased the sequel\u00a0in an Instagram post<\/a>. \u201cJust handed in a film script that I think may be the funniest and best thing I\u2019ve ever worked on and I am so freaking excited,\u201d Gad captioned the post at the time. He added that working with Samit and Hernandez \u201chas been heaven on Earth and many other planets as well. Love you boys!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
