Fox News host Bill Hemmer stopped Donald Trump\u2019s National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett in his tracks after he tried to blame former President Joe Biden for the country\u2019s rising gas prices.<\/p>\n

On Friday, during the network\u2019s \u201cAmerica\u2019s Newsroom,\u201d Hemmer discussed how gas prices had reached an average of $4.09 a gallon, increasing by nearly a dollar since last week. Hemmer asked Hassett where he thinks the cost of fuel could go.<\/p>\n

While Hassett mentioned that Trump sees the current gas prices as a \u201ctemporary thing,\u201d adding that the administration has taken \u201cevery possible measure\u201d to reduce inflation \u2014 including releasing the strategic reserve, the \u201csecond-largest release of the strategic reserve on record\u201d \u2014 he then tried to shade Biden.<\/p>\n

\u201cJoe Biden \u2014 he\u2019s the one who had the biggest release of the strategic reserve, and there was no supply disruption at the time,\u201d Hassett said. \u201cHe was just trying to offset all those terrible energy prices and get gas prices down ahead of the election. And so\u2013\u201d<\/p>\n

At that, Hemmer cut in, saying, \u201cOK, but that was then, and this is now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s now is West Texas crude, which is what we produce here in the U.S. We\u2019re a net exporter of oil. On Feb. 27, it was $67 a barrel; now we\u2019re at $111 for West Texas crude \u2026 What can our economy tolerate? How high can it go?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hassett responded: \u201cOh, well you can see that right now our economy has so much momentum that it\u2019s humming along.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t forget that our economy is much different than the 1970s economy where we didn\u2019t really produce the oil,\u201d he added. \u201cI think the energy-dominant strategy of President Trump has been a real godsend right now this time. But again, these higher prices are a temporary phenomenon and it\u2019s going to end very soon.\u201d<\/p>\n
