Brady Ebert, a founding member of the band Turnstile, was arrested on Tuesday for the attempted murder of lead singer Brendan Yates\u2019s father. On March 29, Ebert \u201cused his vehicle to run over Brendan\u2019s father, causing severe physical trauma,\u201d according a statement the band gave Rolling Stone<\/a> on April 2. The band confirmed that William Yates is recovering, saying that he \u201chas successfully undergone surgery, and we\u2019re hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery.\u201d Ebert was taken into custody on March 31 and charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder and one count of first-degree assault, per Montgomery County, Maryland, arrest records<\/a>.<\/p>\n The alleged incident began on Sunday when Ebert drove up to William Yates\u2019s driveway and began honking and shouting \u201cobscenities,\u201d per Fox 5 News DC<\/a>, at Yates\u2019s daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. When William Yates came outside, Ebert drove toward him, pushing him into his lawn, at which point Yates threw a rock at him. Ebert turned and hit Yates with his car, swerved toward Yates\u2019s daughter and 3-year-old grandson, then drove off. Police responded to a 911 call at 4:41 p.m. \u201cDuring the incident, and for reasons still under investigation, Ebert struck the victim with his 2001 Buick before leaving the scene without contacting 9-1-1 or providing aid,\u201d a Montgomery County police press release<\/a> states. \u201cThe victim was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries, including a broken leg.\u201d<\/p>\n Turnstile parted ways with Ebert in 2022. \u201cTurnstile cut ties with Brady Ebert in 2022 in response to a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community,\u201d the band told Rolling Stone. \u201cAfter exhausting every available resource to support his access to help and recovery, a boundary ultimately had to be set when healthy communication was no longer possible and he began threatening violence.\u201d At the time, the band wrote that<\/a> \u201cWe are deeply grateful for our time together. Our love for him continues and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward.\u201d In the years since, Ebert has continued to threaten violence toward his former band members. \u201cWe never addressed it,\u201d Turnstile said. \u201cWe chose to protect his privacy and the circumstances around his departure, even when he did nothing to be deserving of that protection.
