Angelina Jolie<\/a>\u2019s appearance sparked wild conspiracy theories that the screen icon has been replaced by a clone.<\/p>\n

The bizarre rumors began after photos and videos of the 50-year-old Oscar winner attending a Tom Ford event in Shanghai, China, circulated online. Upon seeing the images, some people speculated that the actress had been replaced by a body double.<\/p>\n

Jolie attended the March 29 event wearing a white silky wrap dress. Her light brown hair was in a deep side part, the front pieces covering one eye. She wore her usual cat-eye eyeliner with a subtle brow but made one bold beauty move: a bright-red lipstick\u2014not exactly a leap from her usual look.<\/p>\n

While the Mr. and Mrs. Smith actress always stuns on the red carpet, this time, people said she was unrecognizable\u2014so much so, in fact, that one person called her a \u201cfake or an impersonator\u201d in the comment section of a TikTok video<\/a> documenting the event.<\/p>\n

Another commenter said it was \u201cso obvious\u201d that instead of Jolie, the woman pictured was her body double.<\/p>\n

In February, Carrey was the subject of clone conspiracies<\/a> after fans thought he appeared similarly unrecognizable while attending the C\u00e9sar Awards in France. <\/p>\n

Not all commenters jumped to quite as extreme a conclusion; some spectators theorized that Jolie had simply undergone cosmetic enhancements\u2014presumably a more frequent occurrence<\/a> in Hollywood than body doubles.<\/p>\n

Among the guesses were Botox<\/a> and lip filler gone wrong.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery injector\u2019s worst nightmare is giving Angelina Jolie a lid droop,\u201d one cosmetic dermatologist wrote on Instagram<\/a>, speculating that the side bangs were covering a misshapen eyelid from an injectable gone wrong.<\/p>\n

Board-certified plastic surgeon Gary Motykie joined the conversation on Instagram<\/a>, noting that he did not observe any drastic surgical change in Jolie\u2019s appearance. Instead, he suggested that the event\u2019s lighting might have played a role in her supposedly unrecognizable appearance.<\/p>\n

Poor lighting can make the skin look less radiant and highlight under-eye bags and wrinkles, as seen at the Vanity Fair Oscars party.<\/p>\n

This is a more plausible reason for Jolie\u2019s appearance, particularly since she looked significantly brighter and more rested in Instagram<\/a> photos posted by Tom Ford, taken with a flash. <\/p>\n

Dr. Motykie also explained that changes in appearance are natural with age.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe eye area is one of the first places we lose volume as we age, which can create that more hollow or \u2018tired\u2019 look,\u201c he wrote in the comments, adding, \u201dThat can be enhanced by lighting or makeup\u2014but it\u2019s a very common, natural change.”<\/p>\n

Many others came to Jolie\u2019s defense, too, writing that there was nothing wrong with the way Jolie looked.<\/p>\n
