Here\u2019s what you need to know to stay safe.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/new-jersey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New Jersey<\/a> State Police officers rescued an abandoned bear cub along the highway on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Troopers from Troop &#8220;B&#8221; Perryville Station received an unusual call around 1:37 pm about a lone cub spotted in a roadside ditch on Interstate 78.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/highest-number-north-atlantic-right-whale-calves-17-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">HIGHEST NUMBER OF NORTH ATLANTIC RIGHT WHALE CALVES RECORDED IN 17 YEARS<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">According to the <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NewJerseyStatePolice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New Jersey State Police Facebook<\/a> post, the bear was found on the East side of I-78 near milepost 12.2 in\u00a0<a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_5\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/local-weather\/new-jersey\/union\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Union Township<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"668\" height=\"376\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/659142802_1242243724748325_1236668582426446546_n.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Troopers save a baby bear that was spotted along I-78 in New Jersey.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"sub-text\"> (New Jersey State Police\/Facebook\u00a0 \/ FOX Weather)<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">When troopers arrived at the scene, they found the small cub by itself and in need of assistance.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">Authorities safely secured the animal and transported it back to the station. The <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/category\/wildlife\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">baby bear<\/a> was then turned over to the\u00a0<a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_7\" href=\"https:\/\/dep.nj.gov\/njfw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection<\/a>\u00a0(NJDEP)\u00a0for proper care.<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/how-to-watch-fox-weather-on-tv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">&#8220;Thanks to the swift response of the troopers, the cub is now safe and receiving the attention he needs,&#8221; the New Jersey State Police said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"668\" height=\"376\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/659710999_1242243708081660_415630758213462445_n.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">New Jersey State police officers transport the bear cub back to the station.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"sub-text\"> (New Jersey State Police\/Facebook\u00a0 \/ FOX Weather)<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">On Tuesday, the NJDEP issued a reminder to residents to start to take preventative measures as more bears begin to emerge from hibernation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">In the past, black bears have been seen wandering into neighborhoods foraging for food.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\"><a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fxw_earth-space_article_main-content_article-body_2_9\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxweather.com\/earth-space\/great-white-shark-bella-pings-off-louisiana-coast-possible-new-shark-hotspot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">GREAT WHITE SHARK BELLA PINGS OFF LOUISIANA COAST IN POSSIBLE &#8216;NEW SHARK HOTSPOT&#8217;<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-438398f6=\"\">According to NJDEP,\u00a0black bears have been sighted in all of New Jersey\u2019s 21 counties.
