Two Argentines meet in an all-South American showdown, while a pair of Americans who know each other well go head-to-head for a spot in the final. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule. But who advances?

ATP Houston Semifinal Predictions
Thiago Agustin Tirante vs Roman Andres Burruchaga

Head-to-head: first meeting

The feel-good story of the week, this one. Thiago Agustin Tirante and Roman Andres Burruchaga are friends off the court , and now they find themselves one win away from a maiden ATP Tour final. Tirante got here the hard way, sending top seed Ben Shelton packing in three sets with a performance built on aggression and an impressive serve that he barely dropped all match. He is a six-time Challenger champion who knows how to win on clay and is playing with real confidence right now.

Burruchaga has been just as impressive, if slightly less flashy. The Argentine has gone 14-4 on clay in 2026 and arrives here on an eight-match winning streak, beating Walton, Nakashima, and Tien without dropping a set. He is a reliable baseliner with a strong return game and a high break-point conversion rate that makes him awkward to serve against.

The head-to-head is a hard one to ignore — Burruchaga leads 3-0, all on clay, but all have come at the challenger level and their most recent meeting went his way in three sets. That clay-specific dominance, combined with his current streak and consistent ball-striking from the back of the court, gives him the edge here. Tirante will push him close, but Burruchaga’s record on this surface and in this matchup should prove decisive.

Prediction: Burruchaga in 3

Tommy Paul vs Frances Tiafoe

Head-to-head: Paul 3-1 Tiafoe

Frances Tiafoe has reached three consecutive Houston finals and is desperate to go one better this time around. He looked sharp in his quarterfinal, dispatching Popyrin in a tense three-setter after saving a match point, which tells you everything about his mentality when his back is against the wall. After what many considered down years in 2024 and 2025, Tiafoe has started 2026 with renewed energy, sitting at 16-7 for the season. He moves beautifully on clay and thrives on the Houston crowd.

Tommy Paul, meanwhile, has looked clinical all week. He dismissed Etcheverry 6-4 6-2 in the quarterfinal and has been taking the ball early and dictating terms throughout the tournament. His clay record is solid, and he has won four of their last five meetings at tour level.

This is a tough one to call given the atmosphere Tiafoe generates in Houston and his comfort on this surface. But Paul has the head-to-head edge and has been the more consistent player all week. His ability to take time away from opponents and push the pace should give him the edge against even a fired-up Tiafoe.

Prediction: Paul in 3

The ATP Houston Open has thrown up a fascinating final four after an entertaining week of tennis.
