The song hit No. 1 on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/the-rolling-stones\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Billboard Hot 100;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Billboard Hot 100<\/a> on July 10, 1965, and remained there for four weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Six decades later, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-lists\/best-songs-of-all-time-1224767\/notorious-b-i-g-juicy-2-1225306\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Rolling Stone;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Rolling Stone<\/a> ranked \u201cSatisfaction\u201d as one of the greatest songs of all time. The outlet noted that Richards\u2019 signature riff came to him in a dream, and he quickly recorded it, then went back to sleep. He found the cassette tape the next day, which ended with 40 minutes of his snoring.<\/p>\n<p>Written in a flash<\/p>\n<p>On May 6, 1965, Jagger wrote the words to \u201cSatisfaction\u201d in 10 minutes at a Florida hotel after Richards told him about his dream. Richards had already given his bandmate a song title inspired by Muddy Waters\u2019 \u201cI Can\u2019t Be Satisfied,\u201d per <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/rolling-stones-satisfaction\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Ultimate Classic Rock;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Ultimate Classic Rock<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In his memoir, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/books\/edition\/Life\/JuDQleqK5PYC?hl=en&amp;gbpv=1&amp;bsq=satisfaction\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Life;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Life<\/a>, Richards confirmed, \u201cMick wrote the lyrics by the pool in Clearwater, Florida four days before we went into the studio and \u00a0recorded it\u2014first at Chess in Chicago, an acoustic version, and later with the fuzztone at RCA in Hollywood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/parade.com\/entertainment\/the-monkees-best-song-of-all-time-became-a-no-1-hit-twice\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:RELATED: The Monkees \u2018Best Song of All Time\u2019 Became a No. 1 Hit\u00a0 Twice;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">RELATED: The Monkees \u2018Best Song of All Time\u2019 Became a No. 1 Hit\u00a0 Twice<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A monster band<\/p>\n<p>In a 1995 interview with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/feature\/mick-jagger-remembers-92946\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Rolling Stone;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Rolling Stone<\/a>, Jagger revealed that Richards didn\u2019t originally think \u201cSatisfaction\u201d should be a single. The legendary singer explained why the song ultimately stood out on the album.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has a very catchy title,&#8221; Jagger said. \u201cIt has a very catchy guitar riff. It has a great guitar sound, which was original at that time. And it captures a spirit of the times, which is very important in those kind of songs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Rolling Stones lead singer added that \u201cSatisfaction\u201d was the song that \u201creally made the Rolling Stones, changed us from just another band into a huge, monster band.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou always need one song,\u201d Jagger said. \u201cWe weren\u2019t American, and America was a big thing, and we always wanted to make it here.
