In 2023, Amanda Anisimova walked away from tennis to focus on her mental health. Fast forward to the present day, and she’s one win away from becoming a Wimbledon champion.<\/p>\n

Anisimova reportedly spent her time off painting and listening to music. She said her break from the sport was necessary because she was\u00a0becoming “unbearable” at tennis tournaments. That’s no longer the case for the American. Throughout this year’s Wimbledon Championships, she’s been playing with a huge smile on her face.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Anisimova solidified her status as a star with a victory over world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. She defeated Sabalenka in a three-set thriller,\u00a06-4, 4-6, 6-4.<\/p>\n

“To be honest, if you told me I would be in the final at Wimbledon, I would not believe you,” Anisimova said after her win over Sabalenka. “At least not this soon, because I mean, it’s been a year turnaround since coming back and to be in this spot, I mean, it’s not easy. And so many people dream of competing on this incredible court. It’s been such a privilege to compete here, and to be in the final is just indescribable.”<\/p>\n

Tennis fans have rallied around Anisimova this tournament, and rightfully so. Her story is inspiring to so many people who have dealt with mental health concerns.<\/p>\n

“Just me being able to prove that you can get back to the top if you prioritize yourself. So that’s been incredibly special to me. Yeah, it means a lot,” Anisimova said earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Anisimova has become such an inspiration that her social media following has exploded over the past week. The 23-year-old from New Jersey currently has over 274,000 followers on Instagram.<\/p>\n

Next up for Anisimova is a showdown with Iga Swiatek in the final.<\/p>\n

While Anisimova is hoping to win her first major title, Swiatek already has five to her name. She has won the French Open four times and the US Open once.<\/p>\n

“I’m just going to go out and enjoy every moment and try to not think about what’s on the line there,” Anisimova said.<\/p>\n
