On the first day of the WNBA’s free agency period, the Atlanta Dream<\/a>madea massive splash<\/a> by acquiring two-time All-Star Angel Reese<\/a> and a 2028 second-round pick swap from the Chicago Sky<\/a> in exchange for first-round draft picks in 2027 and 2028.<\/p>\n

The move instantly and dramatically changed Atlanta’s championship odds, shortening them from 18-1 to 10-1, and further to +900 shortly thereafter; the Dream were as long as 25-1 earlier in the offseason, according to ESPN Research.<\/p>\n

The odds move represents a significant improvement for Atlanta, but it still leaves it outside the realm of the true contenders by the odds. The reigning champion Las Vegas Aces<\/a> top the board at +340, with the Indiana Fever<\/a> trailing closely behind at +380. The perennially contending Minnesota Lynx<\/a> (+400) and New York Liberty<\/a> (+475) come next, with last season’s runners-up, the Phoenix Mercury<\/a>, ranking sixth at 13-1, having been leapfrogged by the Dream.<\/p>\n

The expansion Toronto Tempo<\/a> (250-1) and Portland Fire<\/a> (300-1) are long shots but not the longest on the board, perhaps alluding to a lesson taught by the overachieving Golden State Valkyries<\/a> (40-1) in their inaugural 2025 season. Instead, the longest odds belong to the rebuilding Sky (400-1) and theConnecticut Sun<\/a> (500-1), who will be relocating to Houston following this season.<\/p>\n
