Colorado quarterback Dominiq Ponder had a blood-alcohol content level over two times the legal limit when he died in a fiery car crash last month<\/a>, according to the Boulder County Coroner.<\/p>\n

An autopsy report released by the Coroner\u2019s Office this week stated Ponder\u2019s BAC was .167g\/100 mL, well over Colorado\u2019s permissible .08 cap, USA Today reported on Monday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ponder\u2019s cause of death, according to the report, was multiple blunt-force injuries.<\/p>\n

Ponder passed away in a single-vehicle wreck in Boulder County on March 1, after he allegedly lost control of his 2023 Tesla<\/a> while navigating a turn at high speed.<\/p>\n

The Colorado State Patrol said Ponder crashed through a guardrail, struck an electrical pole and then rolled down an embankment.<\/p>\n

He was just 23 years old.<\/p>\n

Following the release of the autopsy, Ponder\u2019s mother Catrina Hughes told USA Today she hoped her son\u2019s tragic story would help prevent others from suffering similar losses.<\/p>\n

\u201cA big part of his legacy will be to encourage young people to please make responsible choices and to have the courage to step in for their friends when one of them isn\u2019t thinking clearly for themselves,\u201d Hughes said. <\/p>\n

Ponder died just one day before the Buffaloes opened their spring practice<\/a>. The team is slated to honor him with a jersey patch during the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

Deion Sanders, Colorado\u2019s head coach, called Ponder \u201cone of my favorites\u201d after learning of his death.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was Loved, Respected & a Born Leader,\u201d Sanders wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cLet\u2019s pray for all that knew him & had the opportunity to be in his presence. Lord you\u2019re receiving a good 1. Comfort us Lord Comfort us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ponder played in two games during his time in Colorado. A GoFundMe set up<\/a> \u201cto support student athletes, children\u2019s hospitals, families facing medical challenges\u201d and more was created in his honor this month.<\/p>\n
