Karol G<\/a> says she has repeatedly been warned against speaking out about ICE\u2019s operations in the U.S.,<\/a> as doing so could put her visa at risk.<\/p>\n

The Colombian pop star<\/a>, 35, who this weekend will make Coachella history as the first Latina artist<\/a> to headline the festival, said she wants to condemn the immigration agency\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n

However, \u201cPeople will say, \u2018It\u2019s better you don\u2019t,\u2019\u201d said the singer-songwriter, whose real name is Carolina Giraldo Navarro, in a new cover story for Playboy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy? Because if you say the thing, maybe the next day you\u2019ll get a call: \u2018Hey, we are taking your visa away,\u2019\u201d she explained. \u201cYou become bait, because some people want to show their power.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cSi Antes Te Hubiera Conocido\u201d artist<\/a> admitted that if she were ever to say the popular anti-ICE phrase, \u201cICE Out,\u201d her \u201cteam would kill\u201d her.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I\u2019m willing to say it,\u201d she added. \u201cIf I\u2019m being honest with you, it\u2019s something that crosses the line of what I have to do to protect myself. But at the end of the day, what is my role if I\u2019m in this position?\u201d<\/p>\n

Pondering the impact the simple two-word phrase has on her community, Karol G insisted: \u201cI don\u2019t want to just say \u2018ICE Out\u2019 and have nothing come from it\u2026 I\u2019m probably going to go a little harder than that. I just want to represent my community.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut what I\u2019m telling you is that, as a human being, I want that to mean more. I\u2019m not saying that I\u2019m not going to do it; what I\u2019m saying is that I would do it and will do it with my soul. But I want to sit down and understand, in my head: Here\u2019s what that meant.\u201d<\/p>\n

Acknowledging that \u201cI have a huge stage,\u201d she said, \u201cthat\u2019s why I want to wait, and if someone were ever to do something to me, I want to stand firmly on my stage for my community.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that\u2019s why I may have to be more careful, and wait for my turn, and ensure that, through that opportunity, I can talk and represent something more.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cVerano Rosa\u201d singer achieved widespread recognition in 2017 with her hit collaboration with Bad Bunny, \u201cAhora Me Llama.\u201d She later solidified her superstar status with her 2018 hit \u201cSecreto\u201d and her 2019 chart-topper, \u201cTusa,\u201d featuring rapper Nicki Minaj.<\/p>\n

Karol G is scheduled to close out both Sundays of the three-day Coachella music festival, taking place April 10 to 12 and April 17 to 19 in Indio, California.
