\n\tIt\u2019s Cookie Time! Cameron Diaz<\/a> is developing a sequel to the hit \u201980s comedy \u201cTroop Beverly Hills<\/a>,\u201d which will be directed by Clea DuVall<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe new movie is in development at TriStar Pictures, with DuVall set to direct from her own script and Diaz eyeing a starring role. Plot details are under wraps, but the prospect of revisiting the Wilderness Girls, who hail from Beverly Hills? What a thrill!<\/p>\n

\n\tLaurence Mark (\u201cThe Greatest Showman,\u201d \u201cDreamgirls\u201d) will produce alongside Diaz and her business partner, Katherine Power. (The pair co-founded the popular organic wine brand Avaline.)<\/p>\n

\n\tReleased in 1989, \u201cTroop Beverly Hills\u201d starred Shelley Long as Phyllis Nefler, a pampered but soon-to-be-divorced Beverly Hills housewife who aims to prove to her daughter that she can rough it as a Wilderness Girls leader. Along the way, Phyllis discovers that it\u2019s not a bad thing for shopping to be her greatest skill. In fact, her mastery of the luxury lifestyle \u2014 everything from jewelry appraisal and grooming to international relations and yes, dancing the Freddy \u2014\u00a0could be just as beneficial to her troop as learning to build a fire or pitch a tent.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe original film was based on events in the life of producer Ava Fries.<\/a> Jeff Kanew directed the movie, based on a story by Fries and a screenplay by Pamela Norris and Margaret Oberman, produced by Weintraub Entertainment and released through Sony Pictures. The ensemble cast also featured Craig T. Nelson, Betty Thomas, Mary Gross, a young Jenny Lewis, Kellie Martin, Carla Gugino and Tori Spelling, as well as Tasha Scott, Emily Schulman, Ami Foster and Heather Hopper.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe new \u201cTroop Beverly Hills\u201d project reunites Diaz with Sony Pictures, where she starred in the \u201cCharlie\u2019s Angels\u201d reboot, \u201cThe Holiday\u201d and \u201cBad Teacher,\u201d all of which grossed more than $200 million worldwide. Last year, after more than a decade-long hiatus, Diaz returned to acting, starring opposite Jamie Foxx in Netflix\u2019s \u201cBack in Action.\u201d She\u2019ll next be seen in Jonah Hill\u2019s dark comedy \u201cOutcome,\u201d with Keanu Reeves and Matt Bomer. (The Apple TV movie begins streaming April 10.) Diaz will also reprise her role as Princess Fiona in \u201cShrek 5,\u201d and star in the Netflix action-comedy \u201cBad Day.\u201d She is repped by LBI Entertainment.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuVall also reunites with TriStar Pictures following 2020\u2019s \u201cHappiest Season.\u201d DuVall directed and co-wrote the critically acclaimed rom-com, starring Kristen Stewart. \u201cHappiest Season\u201d was licensed by Hulu in the U.S. and became the most-watched original film on the streamer on its opening weekend. DuVall is repped by UTA and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.<\/p>\n
