On April 6, Resident Evil and The Fifth Element star Milla Jovovich announced that she was teaming up with crypto bro Ben Sigman, owner and CEO of \u201cBitcoin lending\u201d marketplace Libre, to create MemPalace, an open-source \u201cAI memory system.\u201d According to Sigman<\/a>, MemPalace has earned \u201ca perfect score on the standard benchmark \u2013 beating every product in the space, free or paid.\u201d<\/p>\n

The most surprising thing about MemPalace\u2019s announcement is that, according to both its GitHub<\/a> page and a post on Jovovich\u2019s official Instagram, Milla Jovovich herself is one of its primary architects and coders. Jovovich stated that she decided to start work on MemPalace after running into some issues with AI coding during a \u201cbig gaming project\u201d she\u2019s been working on, which prompted her to team up with Sigman.<\/p>\n

Many aren\u2019t buying Sigman\u2019s and Jovovich\u2019s friendship, however, as they believe that Sigman is simply using the Resident Evil actresses\u2019 fame to promote his latest AI-slop project. \u201cA crypto bro and an actress decided to do AI. It was shredded within minutes,\u201d writes one user on X<\/a>. \u201cDo it properly. Study math. Teach your kids math.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sigman has made some pretty huge claims about MemPalace, like for instance that it scored a \u201c100% recall on LongMemEval,\u201d which is supposedly the \u201cfirst perfect score ever recorded.\u201d For context, LongMemEval is a benchmark devised to test the \u201clong-term memory abilities of chat assistants,\u201d such as ChatGPT and Claude. LLMs have selective memories, so those who use them often have to remind AI of conversations they\u2019ve previously had. According to Sigman\u2019s claim, MemPalace suffers from no such forgetfulness.<\/p>\n

The problem is that, according to those who tested the code in MemPalace\u2019s GitHub repository, Sigman\u2019s claims are complete rubbish. \u201cTested the currently viral MemPalace on MABench (Long Memory Eval),\u201d writes user parcadei on X<\/a>. \u201cWhen you plug it in and have an LLM answer questions, you get the right answer 17% of the time.\u201d \u201cReal score, but measured in \u2018raw mode\u2019 \u2014 uncompressed verbatim text stored in ChromaDB, standard nearest-neighbor retrieval,\u201d writes lhl<\/a> on GitHub. \u201cThe palace structure (wings\/rooms\/halls) is not involved. This measures ChromaDB\u2019s default embedding model performance, not MemPalace.\u201d<\/p>\n

MemPalace retrieves at session granularity with n_results=50 (all of them). So R@5 asks: “is the right session in your top 5 out of ~50?” <\/p>\n

The other issue is that many have called Jovovich\u2019s involvement in the coding process into question, as a now-deleted user was initially credited with much of the work, and their name can still be found in MemPalace\u2019s GitHub files. \u201cNo git author history, no account connected to whoever wrote the code of this codebase. It doesn\u2019t add up,\u201d writes Aimar Haddadi on X<\/a>. \u201cThe account who pushed the original repo, named: aya-thekeeper, under aya-thekeeper\/mempal got deleted right after the repo got published.\u201d<\/p>\n

To Sigman\u2019s credit, the claim that he and Jovovich are \u201cgood friends\u201d does have some basis\u2014by which I mean that she promoted<\/a> his cryptocurrency book for him back in October of 2025.<\/p>\n

So, with all of this in mind, what would the grift be here? If Jovovich\u2019s involvement in the project is purely promotional and MemPalace isn\u2019t as \u201cperfect\u201d as Sigman has claimed, it\u2019s hard to see how they\u2019d get any money out of all this, considering that MemPalace itself is purely open-source.<\/p>\n

Well, it is a little bit suspicious that a cryptocoin called MemPalace<\/a>, for which Jovovich and Sigman have a 50-percent creator reward split, was pumped and subsequently dumped within 24 hours of MemPalace\u2019s announcement. That being said, as with all things crypto, it\u2019s not possible to prove that they\u2019re actually directly involved with the MemPalace coin; still, Sigman\u2019s shady crypto bro marketplace and Jovovich\u2019s promotion of said marketplace via Sigman\u2019s book certainly aren\u2019t doing either of them any favors.<\/p>\n

Kotaku has reached out to both Jovovich and Sigman to verify the extent of their involvement in MemPalace, and to find out if they\u2019re in any way associated with the MemPalace crypto coin.<\/p>\n
