\n\tUPDATED: James Gunn is zeroing in on his choice for another key role in the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow<\/a>, with Tell Me Lies star Grace Van Patten<\/a>, Alien: Earth lead Sydney Chandler<\/a>, The Cleaning Lady\u2018s Eva De Dominici and Andor\u2018s Adria Arjona<\/a> among those beginning to test last week, multiple sources tell Deadline.<\/p>\n \n\tReps for DC<\/a> declined comment.<\/p>\n \n\tWe\u2019re told the character is Maxima<\/a>, the warrior queen from the planet Almerac, first introduced in Action Comics #645 in 1990, who arrives on Earth in search of a suitable mate and quickly sets her sights on Superman. Created by writer Roger Stern and artist George P\u00e9rez, the character is depicted at various times in DC\u2019s comics as an antagonist, ally and would-be love interest to Superman.<\/p>\n \n\tIn live action, Maxima has been depicted in the series Smallville and Supergirl by Charlotte Sullivan and Eve Torres Gracie, respectively. The character has also featured in Superman: The Animated Series and other animated fare, though she\u2019s never been depicted in a live-action DC film.<\/p>\n \n\tArjona played Martine Bancroft, the love interest to Jared Leto\u2019s antihero Morbius, in the film of the same name from Sony, and had been rumored for the role of Wonder Woman in the DCU. Addressing her in relation to the character in an interview with Extra, Gunn said<\/a> \u201cshe\u2019d be a great Wonder Woman,\u201d while noting that fans were perhaps reading too much into his following of the actress on social media. The actress is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Goodman Genow.<\/p>\n \n\tVan Patten is coming off a three-season run as the lead of Hulu\u2019s Tell Me Lies. In addition she headlined in the streamer\u2019s limited series, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox. The actress is repped by WME, Brookside Artist Management and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. <\/p>\n \n\tThe UTA and Jackoway Austen, etc. repped Chandler is now headed into season 2 of FX\u2019s Alien: Earth which is starting production next month in London. She also starred in Olivia Wilde\u2019s Don\u2019t Worry Darling and had recently had the SXSW world premiere, Anima. <\/p>\n \n\tDe Dominici starred in the film Under the Stars, Forge and in the upcoming Balls Up from Peter Farrelly. She\u2019s repped by Gersh, Twelve Entertainment and Untitled Entertainment.<\/p>\n \n\tWhoever lands the role of Maxima will join a cast led by the returning David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult, who play Clark Kent\/Superman and Lex Luthor, respectively. The antagonists join forces in the sequel to combat the technological alien threat known as Brainiac (new cast member Lars Eidinger<\/a>).<\/p>\n
