<\/p>\nThe Seattle Sounders head to Monterrey, Mexico for the first time since 2013 when they face Tigres UANL in the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals tonight. The Sounders are riding a six-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, which included a pair of wins over the Vancouver Whitecaps in the CCC Round of 16. Notably, this will be the Sounders\u2019 eighth consecutive match played away from Lumen Field.<\/p>\n
This will be the fourth time the Sounders have faced Tigres in competition. The Sounders won their previous quarterfinal matchup against Tigres 3-2 on aggregate in 2013, and followed that up with a 3-0 win over them in the 2021 Leagues Cup quarterfinals.<\/p>\n
Tigres come into this match in much more uneven form. The perennial Liga MX contenders are just 2-4-1 over their past seven matches across all competitions, which includes consecutive losses to Juarez and Tijuana in league play. Further complicating matters, Tigres currently occupy the final Liguilla spot and sit just one point ahead of No. 9 Necaxa with a match against Liga MX leaders Chivas looming on Saturday.<\/p>\n
As he did in the previous round, Stefan Frei is expected to start in goal for the Sounders tonight. He has 28 career CCC appearances, which ranks as the most among MLS goalkeepers.Tigres have never lost at home to a team from outside of Mexico. They are 25-0-6 against non-Liga MX teams in CCC play, which includes an 9-0-2 record against MLS opponents. The only times they dropped points to an MLS team at home was when they drew Orlando in the 2023 Round of 16 and tied the Columbus Crew in the 2024 quarterfinals, winning the first series on away goals but losing the latter series in penalties.The Sounders shortened this road trip by staying in Houston after their 1-0 win on Saturday.The return leg is next Wednesday at Lumen Field. <\/p>\n
