Kansas Jayhawks<\/a> guard Jayden Dawson<\/a> has entered the NCAA transfer portal<\/a>, On3\u2019s Pete Nakos<\/a> has learned. Dawson spent just one season in Lawrence and was a part of the rotation for head coach Bill Self<\/a>. This process is nothing new for Dawson, though, after going through it around this time last year.<\/p>\n

Dawson has already played for four seasons, being considered a senior by Kansas. Nakos added to the report, saying a waiver would be needed in order to continue playing. A speech on Senior Day did come from Dawson inside Allen Fieldhouse. Now, he hopes to get approved to suit up somewhere else.<\/p>\n

As mentioned, Dawson played more of a rotational role for KU this season. His 24 appearances resulted in just one start. Self would check Dawson into the game for around nine minutes per game. As a result, the guard averaged 2.1 points, 0.6 rebounds, and 0.6 assists.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe hasn\u2019t played as much as I know that he had hoped to, and you\u2019ve seen glimpses of what he can do,\u201d Self said of Dawson ahead of the NCAA Tournament. \u201cHe\u2019s got good defensive instincts, he can shoot the ball, and he\u2019s going to win a game for us moving forward, I guarantee it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The best single performance Dawson put together came in the nonconference. Kansas hosted Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Nov. 11. He scored a season-high seven points while adding two assists. Two turnovers were forced as well due to steals.<\/p>\n

Loyola Chicago<\/a> is where Dawson started his college basketball career. Three years were spent in the Windy City. Dawson became a regular in the starting rotation as a junior, starting in all 32 games and playing just under 30 minutes a night. Production followed, as the Ramblers saw him average 13.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.<\/p>\n

Where the waiver comes into play is in Dawson\u2019s freshman year. An injury did take place back during the 2022-2023 season. He wound up only seeing action in 14 games. Loyola got Dawson out there for the entirity of the nonconference portion of the schedule and just four A-10 contests.<\/p>\n
