\n\tSony Pictures<\/a> is developing a tentpole film around \u201cMetal Gear Solid<\/a>,\u201d the nearly 40-year-old video game franchise that\u2019s never been adapted for the screen.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFinal Destination: Bloodlines\u201d directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein are tackling the project for studio label Columbia, part of a first-look production deal the directors just signed. Lipovsky and Stein are hot off the runaway success of the latest \u201cFinal Destination\u201d film, which reinvigorated the long-running horror series and earned over $315 million worldwide for New Line Cinema.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cZach and Adam are thrilling storytellers, masters of visuals and suspense, and two of the most impressive director\/producers working today. With projects across all the company\u2019s film labels, we are so happy to create a home for them, and proud to have them as part of the Sony family,\u201d said Sanford Panitch, Sony Pictures\u2019 Motion Picture Group President. Lipovsky and Stein\u2019s company Wonderlab, which is in the process of recruiting executive leadership, will focus on \u201cwildly fun, commercial, character-driven, genre-bending films.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tAvi Arad and Ari Arad will produce the \u201cMetal Gear\u201d film. The game is a special-ops first person adventure where players seek to destroy the titular weapon of mass destruction \u2014 a bot capable of launching nuclear attacks. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe first-look deal, which covers all of Sony\u2019s film labels, furthers Lipovsky and Stein\u2019s relationship with the studio. They\u2019re developing multiple projects across banners, including an animated\u00a0\u201cVenom\u201d\u00a0movie for Sony Pictures Animation.\u00a0They were previously announced as producing and directing the original sci-fi concept \u201cThe Earthling,\u201d from alongside producers Eric Heisserer (\u201cArrival\u201d) and Scott Glassgold.<\/p>\n
