Since the NY Islanders relieved Patrick Roy of his duties as head coach and hired Peter BeBoer, the players and GM Mathieu Darche have been nothing but complimentary of the former bench throughout his tenure on Long Island.<\/p>\n
Yesterday, Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff created waves across Long Island, stating that some of Roy’s comments regarding his success during his time as a player wearied the players.<\/p>\n

“From talking to Islanders players over the last few days, [there’s] one thing that really wore on them,” Seravlli claimed on the Flames Talk podcast. “He talked about the Stanley Cups he won a lot, too much; I don’t know that it ended particularly well.”<\/p>\n
Today, some players were asked about Seravalli’s comments, shutting down the rumors immediately.<\/p>\n
“We’re definitely not frustrated with Patty (Roy) talking about that kind of thing,” Captain Anders Lee said. “When he did, it was very relevant to that situation, and only him trying to help and tell a story. No one was walking away with those feelings.”<\/p>\n
Roy, known as one of the greatest goaltenders in NHL history, won four Stanley Cups, two with the Montreal Canadiens and two with the Colorado Avalanche. His pedigree is unmatched, and he was known as a big-game<\/a> goaltender who could steal a game.<\/p>\n “That couldn’t be more untrue,” Mat Barzal said. “If anything, we love hearing stories about the teams that he was on that won the cups, especially his team in Montreal. He’d always bring up just how they were underdogs all year, and that kind of stuff fueled us. So that report is just, it’s completely ridiculous.”<\/p>\n
