Via iStockphoto \/ @leslieelorenaa TikTok<\/a><\/p>\n A Costco customer found something unusual inside her protein powder container and wanted to know if it was normal or a sign something was wrong.<\/p>\n In a video that got over 2,548 views, TikTok creator Leslie Lorena (@leslieelorenaa) says she recently returned a container of Orgain Organic Protein powder<\/a>, but the replacement didn\u2019t help calm her worries.<\/p>\n What Was Wrong With The Protein Powder Packaging?<\/p>\n Lorena says she spent the day returning some products, and one of them was from Costco.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a food item, which I don\u2019t like to return food,\u201d she says. \u201cBut this cost me $35, so I wanted to return it.\u201d<\/p>\n She grabs the container of Orgain\u2019s chocolate-flavored plant protein powder.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I first opened it, it had these, like, punctures on it\u2026 Am I crazy?\u201d<\/p>\n She opens the lid and shows the plastic seal, pointing to several small holes.<\/p>\n \u201cSo it\u2019s these little punctures,\u201d she says. \u201cI was like, \u2018Oh, there\u2019s air in here. And that can, like, create mold.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n She wasn\u2019t sure if that was normal for plant-based protein.<\/p>\n \u201cBut because it\u2019s plant protein, I don\u2019t know if it needs air\u2026 I\u2019m no expert at this stuff,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n She returned the product and grabbed a new one, expecting it to be different.<\/p>\n Instead, she found the exact same thing. \u201cI returned it, and I got a new one\u2026 and she told me that all these are punctured,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n At that point, she started questioning whether she had just never noticed it before. \u201cI just didn\u2019t know if I was going crazy or what,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n In the caption, she added, \u201cOkay but I just wanted to make suuuure!!\u201d<\/p>\n Commenters Share Their Theories<\/p>\n In the comments, viewers shared explanations and concerns.<\/p>\n \u201cSome products require a vented cap. Is that possibly what you see?\u201d one person asked.<\/p>\n Others were more alarmed.<\/p>\n \u201cExcuse me, somebody could have tampered with it,\u201d another said. \u201cIt could be poison, you would never eat something that had holes in the seal\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI unscrewed maybe 8 different ones before I bought it again, and they were all like that\u2026\u201d Lorena responded.<\/p>\n She added in another reply, \u201cVery weird. I just don\u2019t remember those being there before.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cJust consume some steaks and call it a day,\u201d a third joked.<\/p>\n Is The Packaging Normal?<\/p>\n Protein powder is usually stored<\/a> in airtight containers because exposure to air can affect freshness and shelf life.<\/p>\n Additionally, when a product has a sealed inner layer under the lid, it\u2019s usually meant to stay intact until the customer opens it, which helps with longevity and to confirm the product hasn\u2019t been tampered with.<\/p>\n On top of that, in several<\/a> unboxing videos<\/a> of the Orgain protein powders, the seal appears fully intact with no visible holes when first opened.<\/p>\n The holes Lorena showed in her video look uniform and machine-made, which suggests they may have been made during manufacturing.
