Youssef Khayat is no longer with the Bowling Green men\u2019s basketball team. In fact, he\u2019s left college basketball and the United States behind altogether.<\/p>\n
Khayat, who played his first two college seasons at Michigan before transferring to Bowling Green last year, is no longer listed on the Falcons\u2019 roster despite the program announcing his return in April.<\/p>\n
Instead, Khayat signed with his hometown professional team: Sagesse Sports Club in Beruit, Lebanon.<\/p>\n
He will also suit up for the Lebanon national team in the FIBA Asia Cup, which starts this week in Saudi Arabia. To prepare for that event, Lebanon played in the Beirut International Cup. According to a FIBA report, Lebanon dominated the event and Khayat looked \u201creally sharp.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYo Yo\u201d brought national team experience, as well as a stint with a pro team in France, to Michigan in 2022. Though he joined the team late that summer, then-head coach Juwan Howard expected him to contribute right away. That didn\u2019t happen, with the 6-foot-9 forward appearing in just nine games and scoring a total of 12 points.<\/p>\n
Khayat scored just 24 points over 17 games as a sophomore, battling injuries and never cracking the rotation. That offseason, he transferred to Bowling Green in the Mid-American Conference. After a promising start to the year \u2014 six games, five starts, 8.5 points per game \u2014 he suffered a season-ending lower leg injury. The Falcons finished 14-18 overall and 8-10 in the MAC under second-year head coach Todd Simon.<\/p>\n
The team announced on social media that Khayat would be returning for his senior season, but things changed this summer, and Khayat decided to leave college and return home.<\/p>\n
