live taping of the \u201cAll There Is With Anderson Cooper\u201d<\/a> podcast at the New Orleans Book Festival, Dax cried while reflecting on how Bell was there for him when his father, Dave Shepard, was dying of small-cell carcinoma.<\/p>\nDax, 51, explained that, at the time, he was \u201cgrowing really upset\u201d that so many people were visiting Dave in the hospital because he had to comfort them instead of coping with the situation himself.<\/p>\n
Dax Shepard cried in an interview with Anderson Cooper about the time Kristen Bell unexpectedly showed up at his dad\u2019s deathbed. CNN<\/p>\n
Dax (seen above) said that Bell surprised him by flying from California to Detroit while she was seven months pregnant with their first child. CNN<\/p>\n
\u201cI was starting to resent that I couldn\u2019t just be in there with my dad, and I was starting to get quite overwhelmed with that,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n
So, the \u201cArmchair Expert\u201d podcast host took a breather and went in his car to call Bell, 45, to \u201cvent\u201d about the situation.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd she said, \u2018It\u2019s OK, I\u2019m here. Look to the left,’\u201d he said, revealing that Bell \u2014 who was seven months pregnant with the couple\u2019s first child at the time \u2014 flew from California to Detroit to be there for Dax.<\/p>\n

Dax said through tears, \u201cShe knew I was struggling and she had flown and not told me and figured out where this hospital was standing next to the car.\u201d<\/p>\n
After Bell arrived, the couple went inside the hospital to see Dave, who couldn\u2019t speak, but still got to feel the \u201cGood Place\u201d star\u2019s pregnant belly.<\/p>\n
\u201cLook how cute she looks with that belly,\u201d Dax said, as a photo of the emotional moment flashed on the screen for the audience.<\/p>\n

Three months after Dave\u2019s death, Bell gave birth to the couple\u2019s first child, daughter Lincoln, in March 2013.<\/p>\n
They later welcomed daughter Delta in December 2014.<\/p>\n

Of all the clubs I\u2019ve tried to join\/identities I\u2019ve tried on, this one is my favorite,\u201d Dax wrote.<\/p>\n
Dax added of his dad, \u201cI miss and adore both the cute baby and the car-selling-assassin that he was. I could\/should have told him more.\u201d<\/p>\n
