CBS might have canceled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert<\/a>, but the host isn\u2019t stepping away from television just yet, as he\u2019s already lined up a new gig.<\/p>\n

According to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, Colbert is set to make a guest appearance on the upcoming third season of CBS\u2019 crime comedy-drama Elsbeth<\/a>, which returns on October 12. The comedian will guest star as the host of a fictional late-night talk show called Way Late with Scotty Bristol.<\/p>\n

Elsbeth is a spin-off of The Good Wife<\/a> and The Good Fight<\/a>, centering on Carrie Preston<\/a>\u2018s Elsbeth Tascioni, an unconventional attorney who ends up working as a de facto detective. The show also stars Carra Patterson<\/a> as young NYPD officer Kaya Blanke and Wendell Pierce<\/a> as NYPD captain Charles Wallace (C. W.) Wagner.<\/p>\n

Colbert filmed his episode this past week, though his appearance had reportedly been in the works for many months. In February, when Pierce was a guest on The Late Show<\/a>, Colbert asked the actor if he could help bag him a role on Elsbeth, quipping, \u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to be a corpse on one of these shows.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can make that happen. I know a guy who knows a guy. We can get you on,\u201d Pierce responded.<\/p>\n

With its \u2018murder-of-the-week\u2019 format, Elsbeth regularly features guest stars in one-off roles. Others who have appeared across the first two seasons include Jane Krakowski<\/a>, Keegan-Michael Key<\/a>, Vanessa Williams<\/a>, Matthew Broderick<\/a>, Mary-Louise Parker<\/a>, Laurie Metcalf<\/a>, and more.<\/p>\n

On July 17, Colbert broke the shocking news to viewers that CBS and Paramount\u00a0had canceled\u00a0The Late Show<\/a>, with its final episode set to air in May 2026.<\/p>\n

CBS cited financial reasons for the cancellation; however, others have speculated the decision was made due to Colbert\u2019s criticism of Paramount\u2019s recent settlement with Donald Trump<\/a>. This comes amid Paramount\u2019s proposed merger with Skydance, which requires regulatory approval from the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

Following the news of the cancelation, Trump\u00a0took to social media to gloat about Colbert\u2019s firing, warning that Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> would be next on the chopping block.\u00a0Colbert responded<\/a> to the President on his July 21 broadcast, telling Trump, \u201cGo f*** yourself!\u201d<\/p>\n
