\n\tCaleb Ellsworth-Clark<\/a> knew stepping into the role of Dewey in the \u201cMalcolm in the Middle\u201d revival came with pressure \u2014 especially for a character so closely associated with Erik Per Sullivan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the Hulu revival, \u201cMalcolm in the Middle: Life\u2019s Still Unfair,\u201d Ellsworth-Clark joins a returning ensemble that includes Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, alongside Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield. But taking on Dewey \u2014 one of the original series\u2019 most beloved characters \u2014 came with a distinct sense of responsibility.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI grew up watching the show,\u201d Ellsworth-Clark told People<\/a>. \u201cI know that Dewey was a fan favorite, but he was also a personal favorite. And I think I was aware that maybe people might be disappointed Erik wasn\u2019t gonna come back and do the show. I guess I didn\u2019t want to fuck that up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor said he felt immediate nerves heading into production, admitting he was \u201creally, really nervous showing up\u201d to set. Still, those concerns quickly eased thanks to the returning cast. \u201cThey were so warm and welcoming,\u201d he said. \u201cI was really scared to show up but they all took such great care of me and made me feel like I belong. So I am really grateful to all of them,\u201d he added in the same interview.<\/p>\n

\n\tEllsworth-Clark also revisited episodes of the original series to prepare, noting his affection for classic Dewey storylines \u2014 including one involving a purse filled with bricks<\/a> \u2014 as he worked to capture the character\u2019s offbeat charm.<\/p>\n

\n\tSullivan ultimately declined to return for the revival, with Cranston previously sharing that the former actor has shifted his focus to academics. The new installment picks up years later, with Malcolm now an adult and a father who has kept his distance from his chaotic family \u2014 until Hal and Lois pull him back in for a milestone anniversary celebration.<\/p>\n
