But now those results aren\u2019t showing, and Google says they were never supposed to. Spokesperson Ned Adriance told The Verge that \u201cGoogle News is designed to show sources that create content about current issues, events, and important topics, and we have policies for sites to be eligible to appear. This site briefly appeared in Google News in error, and it is no longer surfacing in News.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">The links led directly to betting markets tied to specific news events. For instance, before the results were removed, <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/future-society\/google-news-polymarket\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Futurism<\/a> searched \u201cwill ships transit the strait,\u201d (the Strait of Hormuz), and just below credible sources like The Guardian and Reuters was a Polymarket bet on the specific number of ships that would be allowed to pass.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Initially, there was speculation that Google might be testing Polymarket results as part of an integration with the service. Polymarket and Kalshi have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/business\/881967\/polymarket-kalshi-journalism-sponsorship-ad\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">aggressively<\/a> pursuing partnerships with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/897388\/kalshi-polymarket-journalists-partnership-deals\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">journalists<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/907942\/fox-news-cuts-a-deal-with-kalshi\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">news outlets<\/a>, even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/851007\/kalshi-and-polymarket-keep-partnering-with-fake-newsbreaker-accounts-on-x\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">less reputable ones<\/a>. It\u2019s unclear how Polymarket ended up in Google News results, or when exactly it started. Though reports popped up on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AnthonyHigman\/status\/2037160748107866476\" rel=\"nofollow\">social media<\/a> as early as <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/smartvpants.bsky.social\/post\/3mbjrgicqm22k\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">January<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Google has already partnered with both Kalshi and Polymarket to bring their data to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/815300\/google-finance-gets-ai-deep-search\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Google Finance<\/a>. Whether that deal and the results in Google News are related in any way is unclear.
