{"id":578960,"date":"2026-04-12T01:58:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T01:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/578960\/"},"modified":"2026-04-12T01:58:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T01:58:10","slug":"orioles-rutschman-placed-on-il-with-left-ankle-inflammation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/578960\/","title":{"rendered":"Orioles&#8217; Rutschman placed on IL with left ankle inflammation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALTIMORE &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/bal\/baltimore-orioles\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Orioles<\/a> catcher <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/42178\/adley-rutschman\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adley Rutschman<\/a> was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with left ankle inflammation.<\/p>\n<p>The team announced the move before its game against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com.au\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/sf\/san-francisco-giants\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Francisco Giants<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rutschman was scratched from the Orioles&#8217; lineup about two hours before first pitch. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/4917646\/samuel-basallo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Samuel Basallo<\/a>, originally slated to be the designated hitter, replaced Rutschman behind the plate and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/34940\/ryan-mountcastle\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Mountcastle<\/a> was inserted at DH.<\/p>\n<p>Baltimore selected catcher Maverick Handley from Double-A Chesapeake, and right-handed pitcher Chayce McDermott was designted for assignment.<\/p>\n<p>Rutschman was limited to 90 games last season due to injuries and hit .220 with nine home runs and 29 RBIs.
