J.D. Vance said on Sunday that the US and Iran had failed to reach an agreement after marathon negotiations in the Pakistani capital Islamabad.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been at it now for 21 hours, and we\u2019ve had a number of substantive discussions with the Iranians. That\u2019s the good news,\u201d the US vice-president told a press conference. \u201c[The] bad news is that we have not reached an agreement, and I think that\u2019s bad news for Iran, much more than that, it\u2019s bad news for the United States of America.\u201d<\/p>\n
He left, not responding to questions on whether the two sides would go to war again.<\/p>\n
Vance told reporters that the US had not yet seen a \u201cfundamental commitment of will\u201d from the Iranians not to develop nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve made very clear what our red lines are: what things we\u2019re willing to accommodate them on and what things we\u2019re not willing to accommodate them on. And we\u2019ve made that as clear as we possibly could and they have chosen not to accept our terms,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe leave here with a very simple proposal, a method of understanding that is our final and best offer. We\u2019ll see if the Iranians accept.\u201d<\/p>\n
Iran blamed \u201cexcessive demands\u201d from the US for the failure of the talks, saying they had \u201chindered a common framework and agreement\u201d, according to the Tasnim news agency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"J.D.
