\n\tDonald Trump<\/a> appeared delighted when he found out that Sydney Sweeney<\/a> is reportedly a registered Republican amid continued uproar over her American Eagle jeans commercials. Various news outlets, including The Guardian<\/a>, recently reported the \u201cEuphoria\u201d and \u201cWhite Lotus\u201d Emmy nominee listed her party affiliation as Republican while registering to vote in Florida in June 2024, a few months before Trump\u2019s victory over Kamala Harris in the presidential election.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cShe\u2019s a registered Republican? Oh, now I love her ad!\u201d Trump told reporters July 3 while boarding Air Force One in Allentown, Penn. (via The Daily Beast<\/a>). \u201cIs that right, is Sydney Sweeney\u2026? You\u2019d be surprised at how many people are Republicans. That\u2019s what I wouldn\u2019t have known. But I\u2019m glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe ad Trump is referring to is American Eagle\u2019s \u201cSydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans\u201d campaign, which has ignited\u00a0outrage online<\/a>\u00a0over what some viewers see as American Eagle glorifying Sweeney\u2019s white heritage and thin physique. The crux of the ad campaign creates a pun around \u201cgreat genes,\u201d which is the main driver of the controversy and even has some users on social media comparing<\/a>\u00a0the ads to \u201cNazi propaganda.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans\u2019 is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story,\u201d American Eagle said in a statement<\/a>, standing by the ad campaign amid uproar. \u201cWe\u2019ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTrump added on Truth Social<\/a>: \u201cSydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the HOTTEST ad out there. It\u2019s for American Eagle, and the jeans are \u201cflying of the shelves.\u201d Go get \u2018em Sydney.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe ad\u2019s caused so much chatter online that Trump\u2019s White House\u00a0weighed in on the backlash<\/a>, with communications manager Steven Cheung calling the backlash a prime example of \u201ccancel culture run amok.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis warped, moronic and dense liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024,\u201d Cheung added. \u201cThey\u2019re tired of this bullshit.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tVice President JD Vance also\u00a0mocked liberals\u00a0<\/a>for creating hysteria around the American Eagle campaign, saying on an episode of the\u00a0\u201cRuthless\u201d podcast<\/a>: \u201cMy political advice to the Democrats is continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive is a Nazi. That appears to be their actual strategy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tVance continued, \u201cI mean, it actually reveals something pretty interesting about the Dems, though, which is that you have, like, a normal all-American beautiful girl doing like a normal jeans ad, right? They\u2019re trying to sell, you know, sell jeans to kids in America and they have managed to so unhinge themselves over this thing. And it\u2019s like, you guys, did you learn nothing from the November 2024 election? I actually thought that one of the lessons [Democrats] might take is we\u2019re going to be less crazy. And the lesson they have apparently taken is we\u2019re going to attack people as Nazis for thinking Sydney Sweeney is beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEven Stephen Colbert, who frequently speaks out against Trump and the White House, called the backlash against Sweeney and American Eagle an \u201coverreaction.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for Sweeney herself, she has yet to comment publicly on the controversy her American Eagle campaign sparked.
