(WMTV) &#8211; The Milwaukee Brewers are mourning the loss of MLB great Phil Garner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In a statement issued Sunday, the team confirmed Garner, who managed the Brewers from 1992 through 1999, died at the age of 76 on Saturday night. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe Brewers are saddened to learn of the passing of former manager Phil Garner,\u201d the statement read. \u201cFollowing a distinguished playing career, Phil served as our manager from 1992-99 and went on to manage the second-most games in franchise history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The team added that Garner was a highly respected, beloved man and will be remembered for his caring nature, wisdom, and sense of humor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Garner managed over 1,100 games for the Brew Crew before heading on to manage the Detroit Tigers (2000-2002) and the Houston Astros (2004-2007). Garner led Houston to their first World Series title in 2005.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">As a player, Garner was nicknamed \u201cScrap Iron\u201d and played in the league for 16 seasons with the Oakland Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the San Francisco Giants. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In 1,860 games, Garner held a batting average of .260.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Garner was also a World Series champion with the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc15.com\/page\/find-nbc15-news-wherever-you-are\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Click here<\/a> to download the WMTV15 News app or our WMTV15 First Alert weather app.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 WMTV.
