\n\tBritney Spears<\/a> has voluntarily checked herself into a rehab treatment facility after she was arrested on a DUI charge last month<\/a>, Variety has confirmed.<\/p>\n

\n\tSpears was handcuffed by the California Highway Patrol around 9:30 p.m. on March 5, and she was booked the following day at about 3 a.m. According to an arrest record, Spears was released shortly after. She is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney\u2019s life,\u201d a representative for Spears said in a statement at the time of her arrest. \u201cHopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe statement continued, \u201cHer boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSpears recently made headlines after selling her song catalog<\/a> and an unknown number of other rights to Primary Wave. In Janurary she claimed in a since-deleted Instagram post that she \u201cwill never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSpears was released from her 13-year conservatorship in 2021 and has largely kept a low profile since then, outside of some sporadic social media activity. Her last album was 2016\u2019s \u201cGlory,\u201d and she last performed in the U.S. in 2018 at the end of her \u201cPiece of Me\u201d tour at the Formula Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.
