SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) \u2014 WSBT is continuing to check in on the bald eagles at St. Patrick’s County Park courtesy of the Live Bald Eagle Cam.<\/p>\n

The eagle pair laid three eggs this season, but unfortunately none of the three will hatch according to researchers at Notre Dame.<\/p>\n

The last egg was laid on February 27th meaning the window for hatching has now passed.<\/p>\n

The pair\u2019s first egg unfortunately broke early in the incubation period, most likely from physical damage. This is not uncommon.<\/p>\n

The remaining two eggs that failed to hatch could be due to a variety of reasons including infertility or non-viability meaning embryo development is interrupted due to inadequate environmental factors or nutritional deficiencies within the egg itself.<\/p>\n

Studies suggest that anywhere from 3% to 25% of bald eagle eggs fail to hatch under natural conditions according to University of Notre Dame Environmental Change Initiative.<\/p>\n

This is the second year in a row that this nest has not had a successful hatch.<\/p>\n
