Rory McIlroy is a Masters champion once again<\/a>, and he employed some familiar frosty tactics to capture his second green jacket.<\/p>\n

Heading into Sunday, McIlroy and Cam Young were tied at 11-under par \u2014 setting them up as the final pairing for the fourth round of the tournament.<\/p>\n

And a year after Bryson DeChambeau revealed that the Northern Irishman didn\u2019t speak to him<\/a> while they played together, it seems that McIlroy and Young had the same dynamic.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not one to talk a ton to begin with. And I don\u2019t think he really wanted to talk to me today,\u201d Young told reporters.<\/p>\n

\u201cSunday at the Masters in the final group \u2014 we don\u2019t wish anything poorly on the guy, but we\u2019re playing against each other. I\u2019m not trying to be best friends out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once again, McIlroy\u2019s steely focus served him well, as he went on to hold off Young and a host of other challengers to finish atop the leaderboard at 12-under.<\/p>\n

Scottie Scheffler finished just one stroke back at 11-under,<\/a> while Young finished one stroke back of that in a tie for third with Tyrrell Hatton, Russell Henley and Justin Rose.<\/p>\n

Young took a two-shot lead after McIlroy double bogeyed the fourth hole but the New York native was unable to recover after he made bogeys on six, seven and nine. <\/p>\n

Last year, DeChambeau was paired with McIlroy for the final day of action, with the American two strokes back of McIlroy\u2019s 12-under mark after three rounds.<\/p>\n

And after McIlroy defeated Rose in a memorable playoff for the title, DeChambeau bristled to reporters that his pairing partner wasn\u2019t overly friendly.<\/p>\n

\u201cDidn\u2019t talk to me once all day,\u201d DeChambeau said last year. \u201cHe wouldn\u2019t talk to me. He was just like \u2013 just being focused, I guess. It\u2019s not me, though.\u201d<\/p>\n

To that, McIlroy fired back: \u201cI don\u2019t know what he was expecting. We\u2019re trying to win the Masters. I\u2019m not going to try to be his best mate out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to that tournament, McIlroy\u2019s sports psychologist, Bob Rotella, even told the BBC that the tunnel vision he employed at Augusta \u201cwas just the game plan all week.\u201d<\/p>\n

McIlroy may not have made a new \u201cbest friend\u201d playing with Young, but his second green jacket in as many years will certainly keep him satisfied.<\/p>\n
