Zack \u2018JerryRigEverything\u2019 Nelson put the Galaxy Z Flip 7 to the test in a new YouTube video<\/a>, and the device survived being bent backwards with force a few times. We do hear a couple of clicks as it\u2019s being bent, but the folding screen and hinge were still intact.<\/p>\n This is a pretty impressive result, but not entirely surprising after the Galaxy Z Fold 7 achieved a similar result<\/a>. Samsung\u2019s larger foldable is thinner at 4.3mm when unfolded, but it also held up during this test. This also comes after last year\u2019s Galaxy Z Flip 6 survived this test. Nevertheless, the finding should give you peace of mind if you\u2019re worried about sitting on your unfolded device or if you ever wanted to carry it unfolded in your pants pocket (although I wouldn\u2019t recommend the latter).<\/p>\n The Galaxy Z Flip 7 only has an IP48 rating<\/a>, which means it isn\u2019t really dust-resistant. What does this mean for real-world usage, though? Well, Nelson covered the device and its hinge in sand. This made for some audible creaking and crunching when the phone was folded and unfolded, but it didn\u2019t seem to fail. That\u2019s an encouraging result, although those sounds aren\u2019t a good sign.<\/p>\n Otherwise, the Flip phone\u2019s cover screen still experiences scratches at level six of the Mohs hardness scale, followed by deeper grooves at level seven. That\u2019s in line with other glass displays. Unfortunately, the Flip 7\u2019s plastic folding screen isn\u2019t more scratch-resistant than other folding panels, as a plastic pick caused scratches at level two. In fact, Nelson\u2019s own fingernail caused scratches too, which is par for the course for foldable screens.<\/p>\n The video comes after Samsung Display said the Galaxy Z Flip 7\u2019s inner screen should have similar folding durability<\/a> as the Z Fold 7. The Z Fold 7 panel is rated for 500,000 folds, but Samsung also told us that it\u2019s rated for 60,000 folds<\/a> at -20 degrees Celsius (-4 degrees Fahrenheit) and 300,000 folds at 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit).<\/p>\n
