\n\tPresident Donald Trump<\/a> is thrilled about Sydney Sweeney<\/a>\u2019s \u201cgreat jeans\u201d \u2014 and the revelation that the Emmy-nominated actor is a registered Republican.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the \u2018HOTTEST\u2019 ad out there. It\u2019s for American Eagle<\/a>, and the jeans are \u2018flying off the shelves.\u2019 Go get \u2018em Sydney!\u201d Trump wrote<\/a> Monday on Truth Social. Trump seemingly became aware of the growing debacle<\/a> surrounding Sweeney and her controversial American Eagle denim campaign on Sunday. During a press gaggle with reporters Trump was asked about reports that Sweeney was a registered Republican.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cShe\u2019s a registered Republican?\u201d Trump said, \u201cOh, now I love her ad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou\u2019d be surprised at how many people are Republicans,\u201d he added. \u201cThat\u2019s what I wouldn\u2019t have known, but I\u2019m glad you told me that. If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTrump paired his praise for Sweeney on Monday with a blond American icon he isn\u2019t as big of a fan of: Taylor Swift, whose support for Democrats the president has never been able to forgive.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJust look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can\u2019t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT. The tide has seriously turned \u2014 Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be,\u201d the president wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tTaylor Swift was not, in fact, \u201cbooed out of the Super Bowl,\u201d and remains one of the most successful artists on the planet despite the bizarre Republican vendetta against her.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIf Swift and Sweeney have anything in common, it\u2019s far-right men projecting white nationalist values onto their public image. Sweeney\u2019s partnership with American Eagle used the tagline \u201cSydney Sweeney Has Great Genes Jeans,\u201d leaning on the homophone to emphasize the well-worn point that Sweeney is hot, in jeans or otherwise.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cGenes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue,\u201d the actor said in one ad. The general tone of the campaign \u2014 a blond, blue-eyed woman celebrating how great her\u00a0 \u201cgenes\u201d are \u2014 prompted laudatory reactions from online racists, and criticism from the left.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tRepublicans have since taken to categorizing criticism of the advertisement as woke hysteria. \u201cSo you have a pretty girl doing a jeans ad and they can\u2019t help but freak out. It reveals a lot more about them than it does us. No question,\u201d Vice President J.D. Vance said on Friday<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tFormer Fox News host Megyn Kelly said on her podcast: \u201cWe miss attractive people. We\u2019re sick of trying to pretend that these objectively unattractive people are the new beauty standard. \u2026 We\u2019re sick and fucking tired of the nonsense where you\u2019re not allowed to ever celebrate someone who is white and blond and blue-eyed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNeither American Eagle or a representative for Sweeney responded to requests for comment regarding the president\u2019s statements. In an Instagram post published Friday, American Eagle wrote that \u201c\u2019Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans\u2019 is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We\u2019ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
