Where is the FireThe fire is located in the Picayune Strand State Forest, south of I-75. This is all east of Forest Glen Golf & Country Club, south of the Alligator Alley toll plaza. The Greater Naples Fire Rescue District and the North Collier Fire Rescue District are working with FFS to contain and extinguish the fire.Size and ContainmentThe fire is 1,733 acres and 60% contained as of 7:52 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Florida Forest Service. The Florida Highway Patrol said there is smoke in the area near mile marker 98. The Greater Naples Fire Rescue District said FFS has additional dozers that have come in from Central Florida and should arrive in the morning as well.Evacuations OrderedAs of 4 p.m. Tuesday, Beck Blvd. is closed between Mannix Drive and Benfield Road, with the exception of residents and first responders.Evacuations are still in place for: Stable Way, Newman Drive,Barton Gilba Drive, Benfield Road, and Le Buff Road.Evacuation orders were lifted for the Forest Glen community Tuesday morning.Visibility along I-75 (Alligator Alley)The Florida Highway Patrol said troopers are monitoring the wildfire in the area of I-75 (Alligator Alley) in the vicinity of mile markers 95 to 100.All I-75 lanes are open at this time, and drivers were advised to remain alert for any changing conditions.FHP also said visibility can change within seconds with brush fire smoke in the area, and that drivers need to remember the following safety tips for driving in these conditions:DRIVE WITH LIGHTS on low beam. High beams will only be reflected off the fog and impair visibility even more. Your lights help other drivers see your vehicle, so be sure they all work. Keep your windshield and headlights clean to reduce glare and increase visibility.SLOW DOWN and watch your speedometer before you enter a patch of fog.WATCH OUT for slow-moving or stopped vehicles. Open your window a little and listen for traffic you cannot see.REDUCE THE DISTRACTIONS in your vehicle. Turn off the radio and keep your cell phone down. Your full attention is required.USE WIPERS AND DEFROSTERS for maximum visibility. Sometimes it is difficult to determine if poor visibility is due to fog or moisture on the windshield.USE THE RIGHT EDGE of the road or painted road markings as a guide.BE PATIENT. Avoid passing and\/or changing lanes.SIGNAL TURNS well in advance and brake early as you approach a stop.DO NOT STOP on an Interstate or heavily traveled road. You could become the first link in a chain-reaction collision. If you must pull off the road, signal, then carefully pull off as far as possible and turn your hazard lights on.Weather ConditionsWinds are pushing westward, which could lead to smoky conditions along Collier Boulevard south of I-75, and drivers are advised to use caution in the area.Shelter for evacuees A Safe Haven for fire evacuees is open at the Golden Gate Community Center, at 4701 Golden Gate Parkway, for those affected by the Newman and Beck Boulevard Brush Fire. This is the only shelter currently open, and this shelter is pet-friendly.
