Brittney Griner<\/a>‘s time with the Atlanta Dream has come to an end after just one season. The WNBA<\/a> star decided to leave in free agency, opting to join the Connecticut Sun on a one-year deal.<\/p>\n

The official financial terms of Griner’s contract with the Sun were not disclosed, but several reports claimed it is a seven-figure deal.<\/p>\n

Griner had career lows in her lone year with the Dream, averaging 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 1.2 blocks per game. She should have a more prominent role with the Sun, especially since Connecticut’s only other true center in its roster is Olivia Nelson-Ododa.<\/p>\n

Despite her brief run with the team, the Dream have nothing but appreciation for Griner. After she made her move, the Atlanta franchise made sure to honor and thank her for her contributions.<\/p>\n

“Your impact will always be felt, BG. Thank you for everything,” the Dream wrote.<\/p>\n

Several Dream fans expressed disappointment over Griner’s exit, as many had hoped that she would stay and pair up with Angel Reese<\/a> to form a tough Atlanta frontcourt.<\/p>\n

For what it’s worth, Griner also thanked the Dream for the year she spent with them, saying in a post on Instagram that the city will always be special to her.<\/p>\n

“Thank you @atlantadream for the memories,” Griner wrote<\/a>. “This city will always hold a special place in my heart.”<\/p>\n

The Dream have three games scheduled against the Sun in the 2026 season, with their first meeting scheduled on June 2 at the Gateway Center Arena @ College Park in Atlanta.<\/p>\n
