Sandra Lee<\/a>, known affectionately as Dr. Pimple Popper<\/a>, has revealed she suffered a life-altering stroke last November while filming season two of her Lifetime series, Dr. Pimple Popper: Breaking Out. <\/p>\n

The dermatologist and TV star opened up about the terrifying medical emergency in a new interview. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt happened while I was filming the show. I had what I thought was a hot flash,\u201d Lee<\/a>, 55, told People. \u201cI got super sweaty and didn\u2019t feel like myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said she brushed off the symptoms, wrapped up on-set, and then drove to her parents\u2019 house nearby. <\/p>\n

That\u2019s when she said her symptoms persisted. \u201cI just felt very restless,\u201d she recalled. \u201cIn one leg I kept feeling shooting pains.\u201d She also noticed she \u201cwas having a tough time walking down the stairs.\u201d <\/p>\n

After spending the night at her parents\u2019 home, she woke up and noticed that the left side of her body was incapacitated. <\/p>\n

\u201cI would hold my hand out, and it would just slowly collapse,\u201d Lee said. \u201cI noticed that I had a tough time articulating and just enunciating. I thought, \u2018Am I having a stroke?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Her father insisted she go to the emergency room immediately. There, she said she had an MRI that showed she had indeed suffered an ischemic stroke<\/a>, which occurs when blood supply to the brain is cut off by a clot, restricting the flow of oxygen. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was just a shock,\u201d she continued. \u201cAs a physician I couldn\u2019t deny that I had slurred speech, that I was having weakness on one side, but I was like, \u2018Well, this is a dream, right?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat essentially happened,\u201d she added, \u201cis I had a part of my brain that died.\u201d<\/p>\n

Filming for the season was halted immediately, as Lee spent the next two months recovering and undergoing physical and occupational therapy to regain balance and motor movements. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t like that I don\u2019t have total control of my left hand or the grip wasn\u2019t as strong. If I feel like I\u2019m not at my best \u2014 it\u2019s very scary,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

Lee returned to work in January. \u201cIt was very scary to me,\u201d she said, admitting she has a \u201clot of PTSD\u201d since the stroke occurred on set. <\/p>\n

Lee first achieved viral fame around 2014 with Instagram videos showing her extracting blackheads and cysts. Her online popularity helped launch the hit nine-season TLC reality series Dr. Pimple Popper, which followed her as she treated patients with unusual facial and skin conditions.<\/p>\n

Following the show\u2019s nine-season conclusion in 2023, she returned to the screen in Lifetime\u2019s ongoing series, Dr. Pimple Popper: Breaking Out, which features intimate, self-shot footage of Lee\u2019s life outside of the office. <\/p>\n
