Bayern Munich may be ahead of Real Madrid heading into the second leg, but Vincent Kompany isn\u2019t taking anything for granted. Speaking to the media ahead of the game, the FC Bayern coach was cautious about the possibility of a \u2018Remontada\u2019, a term popularized by FC Barcelona\u2019s legendary comeback against PSG.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the key things, no doubt, is that we have a great deal of respect for Real,\u201d said Kompany. \u201cWe felt that way even before the game at the Bernab\u00e9u, and we still do.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re preparing for the best version of Real, which is what we saw against Manchester City,\u201d he added. \u201cTheir recent results don\u2019t reflect the talent they possess. They\u2019re still one of the best teams in Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n
So is it time to throw in the towel? Not at all.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut what about the history of Barcelona, Atl\u00e9tico, Liverpool, Bayern, Arsenal?\u201d Kompany asked. \u201cEveryone can tell a story of when they did something incredible. So can we!\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite this, the coach understood why Madrid are gunning for a comeback in the second leg. He explained the psychology behind it, having been in that position himself. \u201cWhen we lost to Inter and travelled to Milan, we were 100 percent certain we could win. Real feel the same now.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBut we also know how to hurt them,\u201d he added. \u201cI firmly believe we can win. We can talk about everything else afterwards, but I\u2019m not giving any space for that before then.\u201d<\/p>\n
That\u2019s encouraging. Hopefully the homework shows when FC Bayern take to the pitch on game day.<\/p>\n
