(WOWT) &#8211; A Douglas County deputy attorney serving as a Nebraska Regent is facing charges after authorities say her blood-alcohol level registered at more than four times the legal limit in the aftermatch of a head-on crash that left one person with life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Douglas County Court documents filed July 30 state that authorities recorded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nebar.com\/members\/?id=36488347\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nebar.com\/members\/?id=36488347\">Elizabeth O\u2019Connor<\/a>, 34, as having 0.321% blood-alcohol content following a crash at 8:33 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, near 63rd and Blondo streets. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Elizabeth O'Connor\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/4BH4SAV7I5GCFL55ZZLCT2ESFI.jpg\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" \/>Elizabeth O&#8217;Connor(Douglas County Corrections)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">O\u2019Connor made her first appearance in front of a judge on Friday. She was formally charged with DUI causing serious bodily injury, a Class 3A Felony punishable by up to three years in prison and\/or a $10,000 fine. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">She is currently scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 9.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">O\u2019Connor is one of <a href=\"https:\/\/necaa.org\/county-attorneys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/necaa.org\/county-attorneys\/\">63 deputy county attorneys in Douglas County<\/a>, working in the civil division. She has also served on the <a href=\"https:\/\/nebraska.edu\/regents\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/nebraska.edu\/regents\">University of Nebraska Board of Regents<\/a> since 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/countyattorney.douglascounty-ne.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/countyattorney.douglascounty-ne.gov\/\">Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine<\/a> told First Alert 6 on Monday that as soon as a conflict of interest was realized, the case was handed over to the Omaha city prosecutor\u2019s office. First Alert 6 has reached out to the City Attorney\u2019s office. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Kleine said O\u2019Connor remains employed with his office and has been an exemplary employee, \u201cit\u2019s an extremely serious matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the affidavit, she was driving a green 2024 Subaru Outback eastbound on Blondo Street when she crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a 2013 Ford Focus headed westbound. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The front-seat passenger was taken by ambulance to Nebraska Medicine with a broken back and pelvis, the records state. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">O\u2019Connor was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Court records also show that Omaha Police officers responding to the scene reported finding a half-empty bottle of Fireball Whisky in O\u2019Connor\u2019s vehicle. <\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-2\">\u201cThe University of Nebraska is\u00a0deeply saddened by the events leading to the recent announcements concerning Regent Elizabeth O\u2019Connor. We understand that this is an ongoing legal process. We extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery and complete healing to her, her family and all\u00a0of\u00a0those involved in these events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nebraska.edu\/regents\/board-members\/elizabeth-oconnor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/nebraska.edu\/regents\/board-members\/elizabeth-oconnor\">Nebraska Regents website<\/a>, O\u2019Connor graduated summa cum laude from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2012 and passed the bar in 2015 after getting her law degree from Notre Dame.
