Sir Nick Faldo has responded to Greg Norman’s accusations that he made “nasty” comments about the Australian’s role at LIV Golf by publishing private correspondence between the pair.<\/p>\n

Faldo Enterprises released screenshots of text messages and video recordings from 2020 and 2022, revealing that the six-time major champion had actually invited Norman to appear on his YouTube programme to discuss the Saudi-backed league.<\/p>\n

Norman turned down the offer, and Faldo has now indicated he will not be commenting further on the dispute.<\/p>\n

The row stems from an interview Norman gave last week<\/a>, marking three decades since his infamous final-round collapse at Augusta National handed Faldo his third Green Jacket.<\/p>\n

“Nick said some things about me during my time at LIV, some really nasty things,” Norman stated. <\/p>\n

“I don’t have any respect for someone who gives their opinion on something in that sort of manner when they don’t know both sides.”<\/p>\n

The Australian argued Faldo could have contacted him directly given their shared history, adding: “But just to sound off? Like I said, no respect for him.”<\/p>\n

The correspondence released by Faldo’s management company includes a December 2020 message in which the Englishman wished Norman well following his hospitalisation with Covid-19.<\/p>\n

Two years later, in late 2022, Faldo reached out again with an invitation to appear on his new YouTube show.<\/p>\n

Norman’s response came roughly a week later: “I think we both can agree that our relationship over the years hasn’t always been the best, and we don’t see eye to eye on everything, so probably best to pass on this for both of us.”<\/p>\n

Faldo subsequently sent two video messages attempting to persuade Norman to reconsider.<\/p>\n

He explained the programme “was not all about LIV” and expressed his desire to speak with “fellow champions”, noting there was nothing problematic about them being “chalk and cheese”.<\/p>\n

“We’ve had our battles through the years, so I think that would be interesting to talk about,” Faldo said in the recordings. <\/p>\n

“It’s not to corner you in any way, I’ll be fascinated by how you got to that and where we are now, and what you think is the way forward for global golf.”<\/p>\n

The former world number one also emphasised in his video messages that both he and Norman had been “inside the ropes” and understood professional golf in ways no journalist could fully grasp, suggesting the interview would allow Norman’s perspective to reach the golfing world.<\/p>\n

Whether Norman ever responded to these video appeals remains unknown.<\/p>\n

The statement from Faldo Enterprises concluded by noting that given the time elapsed and subsequent developments in professional golf, Sir Nick no longer views the matter as worth revisiting.<\/p>\n
