It did not take long for WNBA players to mock lower and middle class citizens for not making enough money.

The tides have turned.

It’s almost as if WNBA players were chomping at the bit to call people broke. Not a great look…

Who is Erica Wheeler?

The 34-year-old WNBA veteran was not drafted out of Rutgers in 2013. However, she worked her way back to the American league after two years of international play in Puerto Rico, Turkey and Brazil.

Since then, Erica Wheeler has played for the Atlanta Dream, New York Liberty, Indiana Fever, Los Angeles Sparks and Seattle Storm. She averaged 9.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.0 steals in 23.5 minutes per game over 341 games in 11 years. Her best season came in 2019, when she earned an All-Star bid and was named as the All-Star Game MVP.

The former McDonald’s All-American has carved out a legitimate career as a prominent role player who splits time between the starting lineup and coming off the bench. Wheeler shoots 40% from the field!

With Year 12 now just a few weeks away, the 5-foot-7 point guard signed a new deal with the Los Angeles Sparks earlier this week. It will reportedly pay $1.25 million (guaranteed) over two years. This reflects a nearly 800% raise from last season. She played on a one-year dear worth $78,831 in 2025.

The WNBA and the WNBAPA reached a new collective bargaining agreement in March that will result in much higher salaries for players. The players are getting a larger percentage of league revenue.

Wheeler was one of the biggest beneficiaries of the pay bump as a tenured veteran. Her bread is way up!

WNBA players are mocking people without money.

It has been less than a month since WNBA players got paid. The haters are furious.

Erica Wheeler spoke directly to the people who disagree with the salary increase. However, in doing so, she mocked the average American citizen— who makes an annual salary of ~$65,000.

“Yall be hating so bad on WNBA players like it’s sad! lol
Like how you mad someone is making a million dollars lol oh it’s cause you make less an 150 a year?
what type of humans are yall? Are u sick? Like did u guys get picked on growing up? Like I am honestly concerned!”

Wheeler reiterated that her post only applies to the naysayers after it started to go viral.

“Let me clarify this! This is for the people who are MAD WNBA players are making money now. This is not at the people who are happy for us and who held it down with us. I meant no disrespect but to the ones who don’t wanna see W players win that tweet is for you!”

Credit to her, she even tripled down on her stance.

Oh wow I guess I poked a lil bear lol
X (Twitter) please! Okay! If the shoe fit wear it!

It SAID people whooooo are MAD that W players are making money!

If you’re not mad it doesn’t apply to you! If you are MAD it apply to you! I said what I said !

— Erica Wheeler (@EWeezy_For3eezy) April 16, 2026

However, it does not only apply to the haters…

Wheeler’s post applies to all people who make less than $150,000 a year, which is a majority of WNBA fans and a majority of the United States. She completely missed the point.

Love that hun! Appreciate you But Did you say you didn’t like that W players making money?

This shoe don’t fit you!

— Erica Wheeler (@EWeezy_For3eezy) April 16, 2026

And we appreciate that! Even if her post was targeted only at the trolls, it reached a much larger audience. A WNBA player who made a salary of less than $150,000 per year as of four weeks ago is actively mocking the people who are now beneath her.
