Breaking: Umatilla County Sheriff\u2019s Office arrests man for luring a minor<\/p>\n

MILTON-FREEWATER \u2014 A Milton-Freewater man is in jail following his arrest Wednesday, April 15, for trying to lure a 15-year-old girl for sex.<\/p>\n
The Umatilla County Sheriff\u2019s Office reported investigators arrested Humberto Salas Torres, 31, and booked him into the Umatilla County Jail for luring a minor and more.<\/p>\n
Weston-McEwen High School on April 3 contacted the sheriff\u2019s office after a 15-year-old student disclosed a 31-year-old man was sending her lewd messages, according to a statement from the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
Deputies contacted the victim, began an investigation and identified the suspect as Salas Torres, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
Investigators determined Salas Torres set a meeting with the victim on April 15 at a location in Milton-Freewater for the purpose of having a sexual encounter. Investigators went to the location at the specified date and time and contacted Salas Torres.<\/p>\n
\u201cSalas Torres attempted to flee and resisted arrest,\u201d according to the sheriff\u2019s office, \u201cbut was ultimately taken into custody without incident.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the Umatilla County Jail\u2019s online roster, the sheriff\u2019s office arrested Salas Torres at the Outwest Motel on Highway 11 in Milton-Freewater.<\/p>\n
In addition to the luring count, the online jail roster shows the sheriff\u2019s office arrested Salas Torres for first- and second-degree online sexual corruption and for resisting arrest. The luring and online sexual corruption counts are felonies, while resisting arrest is a misdemeanor.<\/p>\n
