The Texas Rangers<\/a> brought aboard Mark Canha<\/a> this offseason in hopes that the veteran utility man could win a spot on the MLB roster.<\/p>\n

Instead, Canha missed out, and he hasn’t made it out of Triple-A yet.<\/p>\n

Presumably because of a clause in his contract allowing for this if he wasn’t in MLB yet, Canha was granted his release on Thursday night, the Rangers announced<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Canha will become a free agent, able to sign with any team.<\/p>\n

The 37-year old is a career .248 MLB hitter with 121 home runs out of 879 hits.<\/p>\n

He played in 46 MLB games for the Royals in 2025 but really struggled with just a .537 OPS.<\/p>\n

At his peak, Canha was particularly known for his ability to hit well against left-handed pitching and play multiple positions.<\/p>\n

It’s not clear if Canha has much left in the tank this late in his career, but it seems like someone would at least give him a chance.<\/p>\n

He has played for the A’s, Mets<\/a>, Tigers, Brewers<\/a>, Giants and Royals.<\/p>\n

Canha had yet to appear in a game this regular season, not even down at Triple-A.<\/p>\n

Whenever a release like this happens, there’s always some wondering about retirement. Canha can’t have that much more baseball to play.<\/p>\n

But at least right now, him requesting and being granted his release suggests he’s looking for another chance. It just won’t happen with Texas.<\/p>\n
